Bunny Ears Lacing Method March 25, 2021 One of the best ways to teach a child how to tie their shoelaces is to use a rhyme to remind them of the steps involved. Kids, now you can learn to tie your shoes in a fun and memorable way! Parents, you can recite this poem before showing your kids the steps to give them an idea of what to expect. Bunny ears, bunny ears, playing by a tree. Criss-crossed the tree, trying to catch me. Bunny ears, bunny ears, jumped into the hole, popped out the other side beautiful and bold. Are you ready to learn to tie your shoes? Let's do it together. Step 1 Take each lace and form a large loop. Hold one loop in each hand. These are the "bunny ears." Point to each loop as you say, "Bunny ears, bunny ears, playing by a tree." Step 2 Say "Criss-crossed the tree," and make an "X" with the ears. Continue with "trying to catch me." Step 3 Say "Bunny ears, bunny ears jumped into the hole," and push one of the bunny ears into the hole you created at the bottom of the center of the laces when you crossed them. Step 4 Finish the rhyme with "Popped out of the other side beautiful and bold," and grab the loop as it comes through the hole. Pull both bunny ears tightly, tying the shoe. Step 5 Give the child a shoe and repeat the rhyme, with the actions, having them follow your movements. Repeat until they seem comfortable to tie their shoelaces on their own!
