Baking and decorating biscuits at Easter is not only a fun activity for the whole family to enjoy, but it provides a delicious end result too. Why not make extra and post or hand deliver some to your friends and family as a nice alternative to the traditional chocolate egg? This is a great way to show you care from a distance. Get ready to bake at home with the kids by gathering all your ingredients first. Ingredients For Your Easter Sugar Cookies 281g all-purpose flour ½ tsp baking powder ¼ tsp salt 170g unsalted butter, softened to room temperature 150g granulated sugar 1 large egg 2 tsp vanilla extract Get The Kids Baking Sift and mix all of the dry ingredients together in a bowl and set aside. In a large bowl, beat your softened butter and sugar together until light, smooth, and creamy. Add the vanilla and egg to the butter mixture and beat on a high speed until well combined. Add your dry ingredients to the wet and slowly mix until combined. Using your hands, lightly knead to form the dough into a rough ball-shape, cover with clingfilm and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1-2 hours. Once chilled, pre-heat your oven to 175°C and line your baking trays with parchment paper. Remove your dough from the fridge and place on a lightly floured surface to prevent sticking. Roll out to approx. 6mm thickness using a lightly floured rolling pin and using a biscuit cutter, cut the dough into shapes and place on your baking sheets approx. 7cm apart. Re-roll any remaining dough and continue to cut your shapes until all the dough is used. Bake for 11-12 minutes, until lightly browned around the edges. Allow to cool for a few minutes on the baking tray before transferring to a wire rack. Allow to completely cool before decorating using royal icing, glaze icing, or some quick and easy, ready-to-use tubes. Remember to cover liberally with sprinkles and most importantly, have fun!
